FontExpert displays the list of installed modules and their current status.

FontExpertSrv

FontExpertSrv service is used by FontExpert to permanently install fonts (for all users). This service is enabled by default and is required if a standard user wants to permanently install fonts without User Account Control (UAC) confirmation.

The service is installed by the FontExpert Setup program. Only administrators can stop and start this service (like any regular Windows service).

Running as a service or as a standalone application

An administrator can unregister the FontExpertSrv service and run it as a standalone application, but in this case only the current user will be able to use it with FontExpert.

To allow all FontExpert users on the computer to install fonts permanantly (for all users), the FontExpertSrv service must be registered and running as a service.

TCP Port

FontExpertSrv uses FontExpertSrv.ini file for initialization. The administrator can configure the service settings. By default, the service uses TCP port 5018 to communicate with FontExpert. The administrator can change this port in the ini-file. In this case, the service must be restarted.

Log-files

When FontExpertSrv runs as a service, it creates a log-file in the folder:

C:\ProgramData\Proxima Software\FontExpertSrv\1.0\logs\

When FontExpertSrv is started as a standalone application, it creates a log-file in the folder:

C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Proxima Software\FontExpertSrv\1.0\logs\

Command line switches

FontExpertSrv supports additional command line switches to output more detailed information to the log-file:

-l=1
-l=2
-l=3

If you add command line switch for FontExpertSrv running as a service, you must stop service, unregister the service, add the command line parameter (type it in the last column in the module list window), register and start the service again.
